The stranglers emerged in the mid 1970's and although the members of the band were older than most punk rock groups they were labelled as Punk at the time. In more recent years they have not enjoyed the recognition attributed to them in the earlier years.
Twenty five years later the stranglers continue to produce music with a style that could not be mistaken for anyone else. At this stage in their now long music careers the stranglers have a wealth of songs to choose from when performing live.
There have been a number of changes of guitarist and front man over many over the years. In the early nineties the addition of John Ellis (guitar)and subsequent replacement of Hugh Cornwell with Paul Roberts (vocals). This line up continued for about ten years until John Ellis left the band. John was replaced by Baz Warne.
In mid 2006 Paul roberts left the band to consentrate his efforts with his own band Soulsec. The stranglers now consist of three original members J.J.Burnel, Jet Black, Dave Greenfield and Baz Warne on Guitar and Vocals.
